- Dr. Mohamed Bakr has been awarded an NSERC Discovery Accelerator Supplement (DAS) valued at $120K over three years.
- The NSERC DAS Program provides significant funding to a small number of outstanding researchers who have a well-established research program, and who show strong potential to become international leaders in their area of research.

- Former ECE grad, Stephen Elop has been appointed President and CEO of Nokia. More info here.
- ECE's Jim Reilly, Hubert de Bruin, and Ahmad Khodayari-Rostamabad, as well as Dr. Hasey, have applied machine learning to EEG patterns and successfully predicted how patients with schizophrenia would respond to clozapine therapy. More info here.
- ECE's post doc, Peter Bevan is spotlighted in the Hamilton Spectator for receiving funding through the Government of Canada's new Elevate program with MITACS Inc. Also receiving funding were ECE's Peter Basl and Li Liu. More info here.
- Congrats go to Team "Robot Unicorn Attack" after the 2010 International Autonomous Robot Competition at U. of Windsor for placing 1st in the Drag Race and 3rd in the Circuit Race. The team representing McMaster was Mike Irvine, Bryan House, Dan Kish, Emily Bot and Danny Vacar.

- The Contactless ECG project from this year's 4OI6 class has just been awarded the MTT Gold Prize in the Alive Video Competition! - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Arthur Gladwin. Dr. Gladwin was a long time faculty member of ECE. He served as the first Department Chair in the early sixties and retired in 1975. More here.

- Congratulations go to the Elec Eng 4OI6 group of Yaser Jafar, Charles Wah, Khaled Chebaro, and Lucas Dobrowolski on becoming one of the top 5 finalists in the North America Altera Innovate Design Contest. The project uses the Altera DE2 board to convert images from two different cameras into one 3D image. Good luck from all of ECE!

- VitaSound Audio, which manufactures hearing aid devices using technology licensed from McMaster, has been named one of three winners of the second annual Innovations@Work Awards. Some of these devices are based on neurocompensator-based hearing aid advancements developed by McMaster research teams led by Associate Member Sue Becker, professor of psychology, neuroscience and behaviour, along with Simon Haykin and Ian Bruce.
