EE 2CI5: Suggested Approach to Practice Problems

Following several requests, I have decided to formalize my suggestions regarding the problems on which you might practice the skills that you have learnt in class. I suggest that you:

1. Solve the examples covered in class on your own. Compare the solution that you obtain with that in the lecture notes.

2. Solve the examples covered in tutorials on your own. Compare the solution that you obtain with that given in the tutorial.

3. Solve the worked examples in the text on your own. Try to do as much as you can without looking at the full worked solution. Then compare the solution that you obtain with that provided in the text.

4. Solve the "learning assessment" problems in the text. Check your answer against that given in the text.

5. Solve the problems in the problem solving companion on the student companion site for the text book. (See the Additional Resources page for a link.) You should attempt these problems under examination conditions, and then compare the solution that you obtain with that provided in the solutions section of the problem solving companion.

6. Solve the problems in the FE exams on the student companion site. You should attempt these questions under examination conditions, and press the button to have your answers assessed.

7. Solve the problems marked with the ipod/www symbol in the text. There are video solutions for these problems on the student companion web site for the text book, but before you view those videos you should attempt these questions under examination conditions.

8. Once you have solved the above problems, you should be in a position to tackle the remaining problems in the text on your own. If you have trouble with one of those problems, please come to see me during my office hours.

For those of you who have the 8th edition of the text (the purple one), you may find the following list of problems that are equivalent to a problem in the 9th edition to be quite useful.
