Hamza Mumtaz, MSc. Student

Hamza Mumtaz is a MASc student in the Fanos Research Lab, Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at McMaster University under the supervision of Dr. Mohamed Hassan. Hamza received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National University of Computer & Emerging Sciences, Lahore, Pakistan, in 2018. Soon after graduation, he started working in Embedded Software Division at “Mentor Graphics” where he worked as a Software Development Engineer until September 2019. After that, he was promoted to the designation of Senior Software Development Engineer. During his time there, he worked on symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) and multi-operating system solutions for ARM-based hardware targets with ARMv7 and ARMv8 based SOCs and implemented real-time cores’ life-cycle management with the hypervisor. He participated in the development of virtual console and virtual Ethernet front-end drivers using Virt-IO for sharing UART and network between multiple virtual machines in a multi-cluster system. His responsibilities also involved the development of different system-level components such as ARM system virtualization extensions support, virtual machine memory isolation, resource sharing and partitioning, device emulation and the para-virtualization of different Linux variants.
